I grew up in Washington DC and it has never felt safer or cleaner. Trump's "emergency" is fake, straight out of the authoritarian playbook

As Scott Schapiro of Yale Law School commented, “I’ll say it again. It was a huge mistake for Congress to abolish itself.”

We have to stop talking about him as if he is he is a man who has the ability to understand diplomacy or military tactics….or anything else for that matter. He is a pathological narcissist with limited cognitive functioning. No one should discuss him with any other lens.
Or maybe he’s psychologically incapable of acting and speaking on anything but pure impulse.

Tomorrow is a very good day to impeach a president and his entire cabinet. Today would be good too, but tomorrow will work for me.

Much as I would not dare to predict the consequences of this war, I do think we can summarize it thusly so far:

A smart and evil man manipulated a stupid and evil man into a war against a fanatical and evil regime.

For a lot of relatively comfortable Americans, electing an emotionally incontinent imbecile was a bit of entertainment. A game. Good sport, owning those libs. I hope they’re duly entertained.

Rebecca Solnit nails it: “When it comes to illness, cure begins with accurate diagnosis. Justice begins with calling things by their true names, and so: we are under attack. We are at war.”

Personally, I think it should be front page news for at least a month if a sitting US President is using falsified evidence to try and deny due process to a man who has committed no crime, but that’s just me

In Santa Barbara, as in cities and towns all over the US, thousands gathered to march in protest, filling the street as far as the eye could see. Now let’s hope the media gives it the coverage it warrants! This was not a 1-day spectacle. It’s a serious, unstoppable movement to
take back our country.

“If America hasn’t broken your heart, then you don’t love her enough.” (Cory Booker) May the light shine brightly through the broken places now, and may the gleaming shards be tools to shape a better world. Our love is stronger than their malice and cruelty. If we stand and fight, we WILL prevail.

Respect and gratitude to Senator Corey Booker for standing up and speaking out with eloquence and remarkable stamina in defense of our democracy and everything we value. (God, we need this, and more!)

The president does not have the constitutional authority to close a department created by Congress. I don’t understand why he is treated as though he does.

I wrote about how particularly ridiculous it is that Senate Democrats, led by Dick Durbin, think the priority should be repealing Section 230 and undermining the very open internet we need more than ever right now. www.techdirt.com/2025/02/21/w...

Why are they so impotent? Time for Dem reps to stand and fight for us! Here’s the non-response from CA Sen Padilla to my urgent request that he fulfill his oath to uphold the Constitution while Trump and the unelected Musk are ripping our democracy to shreds for personal power and monetary gain.
