I teach an undergrad cognitive psychology class. I've been thinking about assembling useful teaching resources (demos, videos, etc.) from other cogpsy instructors & sharing them in a single place. If there's enough interest here, I'll make a separate post & ask you to share your favorite materials.

Just had the chance to present on an @infantstudies.bsky.social panel about inexpensive methods for data collection with children - if you're curious about how Children Helping Science works/the kinds of studies you can run, this slide deck is a good place to start!

Looking for something to read other than the news? New from my lab, led by the inimitable @nicolestucke, no gender differences on a 'sink or float' science persistence task, but accuracy and enjoyment predicted persistence. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Will it Sink or Float? No Gender Differences in Five- to Seven-Year-Old Children’s Persistence on a Science Task
Recent studies suggest that girls as young as 4 years of age in the US are affected by negative gender-science stereotypes and persist less than boys on science tasks. However to date, no studies h...

Occupational prestige is a core component of SES. But it is often overlooked in research because it is hard to measure. We wanted to fix that. This new pub presents an easy to use index, validity evidence, and analyses of what makes a job get seen as prestigious online.ucpress.edu/collabra/art...

[1/2] Meta-analysis methods q! Have ESs nested w/in samples w/in studies. Specifying model as 3-level using metafor's rma.mv. But worried about trade off in dfs and whether it's worth it. It's not totally obvious that there is variance due to study & some studies contribute >1 samples but not many.

Hot take: sharing your data should not be optional in 2023. Collect and store your data assuming you at some point be asked to share it (e.g., for a meta-analysis).

New paper! Convenience samples have a bad rap. What role, if any, should they have in developmental research?
@mcxfrank.bsky.social & I argue they can--under some conditions--help achieve key goals of the field: advancing theory & reducing bias. How? Read the paper!: osf.io/preprints/ps...

Any suggestions re: how to model dependence in data (siblings)? Want to avoid throwing data out & would be great to test siblings. I learned to not test siblings because doing so violated assumption of independence but...it's 2023, is there no way to just model that dependence or is it not worth it?
