New from me for @science.org: A major planetary science conference will require submitted abstracts to comply with Trump's anti-DEI executive orders.

This conference, LPSC, is a big deal. It's been running since 1970 and is one of the biggest planetary science conferences out there. 🧪🔭

In the 1960s and 70s, Syukuro Manabe pioneered ways to model Earth’s atmosphere. In 2021, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for this work, which is often cited as foundational to modern climate science.
How Climate Scientists Saw the Future Before It Arrived | Quanta Magazine
Over the past 60 years, scientists have largely succeeded in building a computer model of Earth to see what the future holds. One of the most ambitious projects humankind has ever undertaken has now…

Excited to share a new preprint with Michael Graham on identifying efficient routes to laminarization in turbulent flows. In this work, consider the question: What is the closest point to a turbulent attractor that laminarizes without a chaotic transient? (1/3)

📢📢 New preprint alert! 📢📢

Radiation is a key piece of climate models, but comes with a trade-off: use an accurate scheme (which is difficult to understand), or a simple scheme (which is not very accurate)...

Here I introduce a scheme which bridges this gap!

I can confidently say that I would not still be doing physical oceanography without MPOWIR. The termination of MPOWIR's NSF grant is soul-crushing to me. Let's celebrate the success of this 20 year program and get to work continuing its legacy. 🌊 ⛴️ 🧪
