We are absolutely losing an incredible amount of institutional knowledge and leadership. The current acting administrator of NASA is executing huge reductions with no plan or interest in maintaining space sciences in the United States

Meet your new cosmic neighbors ☄️

Introducing a swarm of over 2100 new asteroids discovered by NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory!

Rubin discovered these asteroids in about 10.5 hours of observing across 7 nights.

They've never been seen by humanity before...until now.🔭🧪

Nothing sums up the state of affairs for transgender Americans quite like the US Supreme Court denying trans people life-saving healthcare at the same time that the Trump administration shuts down suicide prevention programs for LGBTQ people.

These bastards want us all dead.
Breaking: The Trevor Project received a stop-work order last night on its contract with the national 988 suicide prevention hotline. The Trump administration is eliminating the option for LGBTQ callers to the hotline to press 3 and connect with someone who specializes in LGBTQ mental health.

For those of us who made the poor choice to have our life’s work governed by orbital mechanics, 4 years can change a project from “some really interesting science to do towards the end of my career”into “won’t happen in my lifetime”

(Looking at you Uranus orbiter)
I've seen folks talk about how "in four years" they'll be able to get back to their planned projects and I really don't think that's going to work out. People & projects losing funding now will not be able to hit pause and come back once funding is restored. Hard-won progress & capacity will be lost
I worry that not enough of a big deal is being made about how long-term the devastation of these budget cuts to our scientific and health agencies will be, beyond the absolute ruin they will cause in the acute period.

Anyone got hot job openings for an astrodynamicist/spacecraft trajectory engineer in a country safe for trans people? Asking for a friend who definitely isn't myself... bsky.app/profile/plan...
The Presidents Budget Request for NASA is out. It’s a bloodbath

Canceled are DAVINCI, VERITAS, Juno, OSIRIS-APEX, US participation in ExoMars and EnVision…

Huge cut to R&A. No funding to begin development of the Uranus Orbiter.

If you’ve ever cared about NASA, time to contact congress.

I'd like to wish World Athletics and Seb Coe a big "fuck you, you bigoted would-be abusers"
