CUPE flight attendants defied a Section 107 back-to-work order, forced #AirCanada back to the bargaining table, and successfully bargained a tentative agreement.

A new page of Canadian labour history has been written today.

A great thread - a longer and even more detailed thread than mine on why the Air Canada debacle may be lighting the fuse (a fuse which was itself set up by other use of s.107)
The existing Canadian system of collective bargaining, for all its flaws, was forcibly extracted from a reluctant Liberal government in the 1940s, after a decade of workers demonstrating that restricting strikes only fuelled further class conflict 1/ 🧵

@thelawofwork.bsky.social and @xntl.bsky.social have been providing great on-going commentary or summaries -- but here is a longer thread on why CUPE's defiance of the CIRB's order (and the decision to remain on the picket line) is so important /1

A timely find on EBay - I spent a bunch of time with the Rand Report for CUPW (not the formula, but the report on strikes and lockouts).

Solidarity to CUPE members as they defy the CIRBs order -- a good time to review this great Eric Tucker article about the importance of revitalizing "illegal" strikes as a mobilization tactic: digitalcommons.osgoode.yorku.ca/cllpj/vol45/...

Overshadowed by the failed (forced) ratification vote (as it should) but a nice decision from the Court of Appeal yesterday holding that secondary picking should be treated like any other labour picket - in this case CUPW pickets at Purolator depots. coadecisions.ontariocourts.ca/coa/coa/en/i...

Big news out of BC as the labour board certifies a union at Amazon. Like Quebec, BC also has first contract arbitration, which makes it hard to avoid signing a contract. Now let’s see if Amazon reprises its Quebec response to unionization and shuts down its BC operations.

This is awesome - I was the OLRB on a totally unrelated matter and they had room full of people counting all day. I haven’t seen physical ballots in years now.

A fantastic deep dive into Uber’s ongoing exploitation of its workers. A great piece of labour journalism (and it is awesome to be quoted alongside folks doing great work like Gig Workers United and @veenadubal.bsky.social )
I went undercover as an Uber Eats courier and made just $1.74 per hour online. Here’s what I learned about the troubling cost of convenience
For six weeks, I hustled for orders and made a shockingly low wage. Uber says my experience was 'atypical' — but workers I spoke to say differently.
