I feel like the best idea happened in the TV adaptation: split the two main characters into six or so people who all had genuine motivations to commit some of the wildly contradictory actions needed to bring the ideas forward. But that’s an *extremely* western take on an *extremely* eastern book.

I would argue Rebecca Black (2011) is the Luigi to Rebecca Black (2025)’s Waluigi.

As someone who is, uh, doing this freelance for, uhhhhh, significantly less, uhhhhhhh, without a say in said guidelines, uhhhhhhhhhhh, I’m not at liberty to, UHHHHHHHHH, advise.

I bounced off this so hard, I dropped it halfway through, maybe even a third? I figured if it was just the big ideas I liked and not the telling, I could read the Wiki. But there end up being *so many* big ideas, even the Wiki summary was a bit of a slog. So! Not for me.

You're right, I'm actually basing it on his beige chinos.

Similarly, I drink bleach because I want to know what happens if you drink bleach, drinking bleach doesn’t mean I think it’s a healthy thing to do.

I’ll never forget having to cross a four lane road in Marrakesh with no guidance in sight, and how everyone took on the responsibility to look out for each other, to the extent locals felt no fear just stepping into the road and trusting drivers wouldn’t mow them down, and it worked!

Does it encourage the pedestrian to look to see oncoming traffic, rather than blindly trusting the green man? Sure! But removing the warning not to cross from their natural line of sight, and effectively *replacing* it with instruction to cross intended for a *completely different road*, is mental.

It is as confusing to explain as it is stupid to implement.

Visual elaboration! That red pedestrian light directly ahead of Douglas does not refer to the empty road ahead, but the road which the truck is currently crossing. When the truck’s road goes inactive, and the road in front of Douglas becomes active, that light will go green. bsky.app/profile/dgls...
that red pedestrian signal does not mean what you think it means because somebody has changed the direction of a chunk of the pedestrian lights in glasgow so they refer to the street at right angles to the one suggested by established visual language and i'm surprised people aren't dying as a result

Gatekeeping? In the publishing industry? Groundbreaking.

Also currently sending extreme side-eye to a book design site which, when it launched, was open to all-comers, but now is only open to established designers working in-house for publishers, and also serves as a funnel to the owner’s overpriced interior design service, iykyk.

Maybe he’s shitting himself and needs the pages for toilet paper, anything’s possible, man.

Unfortunately he’s also going to recommend it to his girlfriend because despite the blurb’s empowering sentiment it’s generally understood in the self-help community as a 12 step program to becoming a doormat for toxic behaviour BUT at least he’s reading, gotta get those literacy levels up!

Quite funny in context, to be fair.

Was it because they dissolved the roof of your mouth before you were through half a packet?

I'm currently in a Music League round where the prompt is, "2015", searched my collection on Tidal fully expecting the year to be wall-to-wall indie/rock. Nope. There's a few guitar-led highlights - Tenement, Shopping, Preoccupations - but the decade midpoint is mostly weird pop/funk/electronica.
