I will not be wasting money on a Market Days Festival “VIP package”. Or really any other VIP package. Those aren’t my people. My people are in the pit, the floor and the mass of sweaty bodies, not excluding themselves from them.

I can’t even understand why people are arguing with Karen about this. There aren’t jobs in the rest of the world to sustain American scientists, “American science“ can’t just be transplanted abroad either.
The “brain drain” will be a primarily domestic phenomenon, w/ STEM-trained people moving into non-STEM occupations.

There are not remotely enough STEM jobs abroad for our *millions* scientists, and even if there were, moving is hard, expensive & dependent on multiple intersecting privileges.

As the attack on marine science and the dismantling of science. Many of us are having a very hard time.

Please do not placate us by telling us how "amazing" our job is. How you wish you could be a marine biologist. Anything that dismisses our current emotions.

Be empathetic but not reductive.

Love this. In his “I Agree” installation Dima Yarovinsky-Yahel took the content from terms of service statements for companies like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Tinder and printed them out on A4 paper with a standard font size for legal contracts to demonstrate the length of these agreements.

Yesterday’s NOAA purge ousted two PhD biologists from a team created last year to protect critically endangered whales in the Southeast.

Also, 14 were gutted from the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries. Another 14 from the Southwest Fisheries Science Center.
