Kind of crazy that James Gunn not only wrote & directed a huge budget movie this year (Superman) but also wrote 8 episodes of TV and directed 3 of them. And it was all pretty great! WHILE being a co-president of a big company.

I don't see this movie come up a lot in the "great screenplays to analyze" discussions but I think "Independence Day" is an amazing script, not even for just a blockbuster type movie. Rewatching it now, it holds up so well because it's immaculately structured.

I think my favorite way now to get started on a creative project is to tell myself "Time to make something terrible!". It weirdly takes the pressure off because if it DOES end up terrible then, well, that was the plan, right? But if it ends up good, even better.
