I lost a good friend in March, only 21 yo. Been down in the dumps ever since. Trying to find joy in the #littlethings but I am still finding it difficult

Love to hear this ❤️

On our 1 acre we make branch offcut heaps and let our native grasses grow long for our resident Northern Brown Bandicoots to live. The neighbours hate it! They mow theirs flat. In the long frost cured grass you can see tunnel entries from frequent use. #southerndownsqld #wildoz got cameras finally!

I’m home alone for 3 weeks, family in England. We’ve had 170mm winter rain this month (average July rain 29mm). I have whooping cough and I’m flooded in, can’t get out of my yard. So pretty peachy 😬

Whoops. Just dug up a Pobblebonk (eastern banjo frog) while harvesting sweet potatoes. Left my harvest a bit late this year. Did it in April last year as frost usually April. No frost yet but Thursday looks a contender #wildoz #southerndownsqld

This weeks birds. Red rump parrot, yellow rump thornbill, black shouldered kite and a poor young tawny frogmouth I called wildlife carer to collect. Other cars just driving past and ignoring it. Was only a matter of time before it got squished. #wildoz #southerndownsqld

Birdwatching on a crisp autumn morning in the great dividing range QLD #wildoz #darlingdowns this morning I’ve seen zebra finch, double barred finch, red rump parrots, little corella, sulfur crested cockatoo, magpie, magpie lark, crested pigeon.

I had a 3 times repeating aura migraine and didn’t get to do much today despite being a public holiday. Found a Peron’s tree frog in my greenhouse was about as exciting as it got. But at least my little moment of peace amongst the I’m too sick to do anything else doomscrolling

It looks even cooler now we’ve had rain from cyclone alfred. All fluffy anf hairy looking

I am the red x and my family are other x’s. Times like this I worry about my family & my house of course but worry about our local frogs, birds and bandicoots more. Already getting windy, 48 hours until the peak for our house. #southerndownsqld #cyclonealfred

The velvet weeds are all going to seed which means we have a constant stream of gorgeous red rump parrot couples visiting. Taken on a phone camera through a dirty kitchen window. Times like this I wish I had a proper camera. And clean windows. #wildoz #southerndownsqld

Pretty rad looking fungi on my oak tree pot, no idea what it is #fungifriends #southerndownsqld

Moved to the country for the clean air, grow pesticide free food for my kid, for her to be connected to the land in a way most humans are not anymore. I gave up growing much food as the waves of pesticide drift from the local farms kill most things we try to grow. Disillusionment with a capital D.

Considering our one acre is located in temperate grassland I was surprised we have so many frogs. 7 types of frogs that I have seen and two that I have identified by calls but not seen yet (through the frog ID app). Here: spotted marsh frog, bleating tree frog and eastern banjo frog (pobblebonk).

Bought mountain acerage end of summer Feb 2023. Planted 18 trees our 1st spring. 1 pecan relocated after localised/seasonal yard flooding at the start of 2024. The start to 2025 was wetter than the start to 2024. Another pecan flooded but not for long. The lowest part we call ‘the swimming pool’.

I filled a wicking pot full of peanuts yeaterday and out popped two baby bleating tree frogs

93mm since Sunday, swimming pool is back, happy 4 yo. Swamp banksia, honey myrtle, willow bottlebrush, lomandra hystrix, melaleuca snowstorm & viridiflora and poa labillardieri planted to soak up. Skeptical viridflora & bottlebrush will survive winter frosts. Trusting locals over net with these 2.

Took 4yo and dog Bowser for walk after dinner last night. 4yo has massive energy rush from food. Saw many frogs! Hard to choose which to post. We lucky to not have cane toads in our part of QLD, i’m sure these critters get killed by well meaning ppl. Meet the Pobblebonk! (Eastern banjo frog) #wildoz

1/3rd of our annual rainfall has fallen this November, happy days for all the frogs like this robust bleating tree frog. They love the shaded area where my potted blueberries live in wicking beds. They often hide in the outlet pipe for the wicking beds when they are still little. #wildoz

Very excited to discover the vulnerable Picris evae on our 1 acre of black cracking clay. My partner is getting great at mowing around the natives and we only mow 1/4 of the property on any mow session. We have no go sections that we leave for the lizards, bandicoots and frogs #wildoz

I get up with the sun every day and walkabout my garden just to observe the little things. 215mm rain this month, everything springing to life.

My 1 year old Melaleuca thymifolia - thyme honey myrtle flowering for first time. Had in a pot, planted out about 8 weeks ago. We are trying to build a magical 1 acre garden for our (currently 3 yo) to grow up in. My grandma had what we considered a magical garden when I was growing up. #ausnatives

5 years jail for the farmers organising this?

105mm of rain over 48 hours means the frog party is in town. Found this Peron’s tree frog last night, my first for the season. It’s mostly been spotted marsh frogs and bleating tree frogs that i’ve found around my yard.
