When all children receive a high quality education that develops their critical thinking and problem solving skills poverty, hunger, and slavery will no longer affect millions.

Education gives hope, confidence and curiosity. And that breaks the cycle of powerlessness that leads to suffering.
Did a day trip to Shenzhen last week and had our first experience riding the subway (MTR) there. It's clean and modern. The image is the map of all of the trains and stations in Shenzhen. With a population of almost 18m, Shenzhen has grown to be the third most populated city in China.

Sunset in Thailand. My son took this picture on a recent trip. I hope it brings some peace and calm to all my fiends on Blue Sky.

Google LearnLM - an AI-powered learning coach.
I took it for a test drive and published a short episode with my impressions. It is going to be interesting to see how disruptive this is in the EdTech market.

I'll say it again. Education is the great equalizer. The below post points out the negative effects of taking education away. I like to focus on the positive effects of providing a quality education to all children.

Channeled Apple Snails lay clusters of eggs that look like bubble gum. They are an invasive species in Asia and we saw these eggs all over the golf course yesterday as we walked around the Hong Kong Open golf tournament.

Don’t touch! The eggs are toxic.

Why do over 20k accounts follow @buseum.bsky.social ?

The account has 0 posts and only reposts Sanat Tarihi. I guess people just blindly add accounts to startup lists but it also makes me wonder if people have some monetization dream that drives them to pursue lots of followers here. Not me.

Celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary in Egypt. An amazing trip with the love of my life. Life is good!

Just got home to Hong Kong last night. Still unpacking and catching up on sleep.

Did you miss me? I was in China for a few days and Bluesky and all my social media apps were blocked. Now I'm back in Hong Kong where I'm not behind the great China firewall.

We had a nice trip with a group of 20 friends, and I'm glad to be home again.

I'm grateful for all those that have followed me. It isn't about reaching a number. It's about community. Finding like minded people, openly sharing ideas and positivity.

Thanks for sharing beautiful pictures and thoughts that brighten my day. I hope I can brighten your day now and then.

This week is the Mid-Autumn Festival in Hong Kong and it marks 40 years since I met my wife in Orlando.

I didn't know 40 years ago how much my life would improve because of her, but finding the love of my life changed everything. I am truly a lucky man.

@johnjmz.bsky.social blocked me and added me to "Bots Blocker" list. How strange. Have I done something that gives the appearance I'm a bot?

If anyone else has doubts, I can assure you I'm a real person, living in Hong Kong, doing a podcast, enjoying retirement.

Red Sox take game 1 of their series with the Yankees!

Watching from Hong Kong. I got up early to watch the game and it did not disappoint.

Go Red Sox!

We took the ferry from Central to Cheung Chau yesterday for a fun outing.

It was a beautiful day. We ate lunch in a little Thai restaurant, ate fresh egg waffles and walked around the town.

Just have to watch out for the people on bicycles.

My wife had a great suggestion. They should change the rules for veto power in the UN so that it requires a majority of the 5 countries with veto power instead of unilateral veto from an individual country.

No country should be able to force their agenda over the will of most other UN members.
Is it possible that China, Russia, UK and France will get together and vote to revoke the US veto power in the UN? Trump was such an embarrassment and the US is working against almost the whole world on important matters. Trump needs to be put in his place.

The Red Sox are going to the playoffs! So fun to see them get there with a walk off triple in the bottom of the ninth at home.

I look forward to seeing them go all the way.

Go Red Sox!

Typhoon update: Ragasa is passing just south of Hong Kong and I am okay so far. The sound of the wind howling around us is disconcerting but I still feel safe.

No leaks and no signs of major flooding that I can see from my windows. I am afraid many others in the region will not be so lucky.

Typhoon update. Super typhoon Ragasa should make landfall near us tomorrow as the equivalent of a category 4 hurricane. The weather will begin to deteriorate this evening and be rough well into Thursday.

We will be hunkered down for a couple of days but expect to be safe in the storm.

“Traditional education assumes that the answers have been discovered and the next course is to learn them. Inquiry-based education assumes answers are there to be discovered and the best answer may not yet have been found.”
