Officially moth-obsessed, also easily distracted by birds, butterflies, flies, wasps and spiders. Musically devoted to an (un)holy trinity of Bruce Springsteen, Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen.
Dusk at @ladywalknr.bsky.social yesterday after a brief visit, my first in ages. It only needed a Woodcock or an owl to appear to make it perfect…sadly neither did.

A decent trap for the time of year, 7:5 with Rusty-dot Pearl being the most unexpected of the lot. 2 December Moths & Mottled Umber were the best of the rest; no Winter Moth surprisingly. #teammoth @pmandrews1973.bsky.social @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social

#MothMemories2025 Latticed Heath, another NFG in late June. I trapped a second one in mid-August, but it didn’t pose as nicely. #teammoth

My two Ectoedemia argyropeza mines are developing nicely, time to get them potted up and overwintering (on the patio step with the bulbs) #teammoth @vc28nature.bsky.social

#MothMemories of 2025. I’m revisiting some of my most pleasing moths of the past year & at the same time sharing the #macro photos that I often don’t post. First off, Brown China-mark, NFG in June. #teammoth

The unusual sight of six Magpies in the garden this morning, now where is that gold?..

Would welcome thoughts on this Stigmella mine on Lombardy Poplar. Is it S. trimacullela, or could it possibly be S. assimilella? Egg is on upper side of leaf. #teammoth @vc28nature.bsky.social

I noticed feeding signs in a window box of pelargoniums at my In-laws’, so had a poke around and found this caterpillar. ObsID reckons Angle Shades which seems reasonable given their wide-ranging tastes. #teammoth

Having had a small (self-seeded) Aspen sapling pointed out to me at Hill Hook LNR, I went looking for Evtoedemia argyropeza mines today & found 2. New for SK10 (both VC38 & VC39) #teammoth @pmandrews1973.bsky.social @vc28nature.bsky.social @ecorecord.bsky.social

Yesterday while checking the moth trap site for lurkers, I disturbed a Peacock butterfly, which fluttered out of the area near the windowbox and settled under the patio table. Don’t think I’ve ever seen one on the wing in November before! @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Another species added to the garden list courtesy of leafmines, the Birch-feeding Ectoedemia occultella. #teammoth @pmandrews1973.bsky.social

6:14 last night, nothing new, no migrants, most interesting probably a late MdJ (I’ve never had one after October before) that sadly perished in a spider’s web. #teammoth @pmandrews1973.bsky.social

Not had much success finding mines in Birch in the garden or up the street despite there being a quite a few Birch trees. But today I found Phyllonorycter ulmifolliela, and Stigmella luteella in the garden, latter new for SK10 @pmandrews1973.bsky.social @vc28nature.bsky.social #teammoth

There’s definitely a slit, though it doesn’t photograph well in artificial light. Well chuffed to find an Ectoedemia among all the Stigmellas & Phyllonorycters

Hi Rob @vc28nature.bsky.social is it possible to ID this untennanted Ectoedemia mine on Oak? Thank you in advance for your help.

Not a moth but a bug, of the plant hopper-type. I put your photo into ObsIdentify and this is what it came up with.

Another attempt at leafmine rearing. A possible Ectoedemia quinquella (very few records in VC38)has pupated on its leaf, so into a pot it goes… #teammoth @vc28nature.bsky.social

15:6 last night, bulk of the numbers made up by LBAM & R-g Carpet. December Moth & Mottled Umber NFY, the latter a lurker by the patio window which has cheered me up no end. Also Ypsolopha ustella. #teammoth @pmandrews1973.bsky.social

And I have one already… A day earlier than last year, and my earliest ever record.

One of the many bird-dropping mimics in the moth world! Deserving of its name, & looks like it might be related to the ‘Prominent’ moths that we have in the UK, like this Pebble Prominent (Notodonta ziczac)

Instead of a visit from Wogan, I had one from Baldrick. He left me a Turnip (and three Caddisflies turned up to have a look). #teammoth

More mines from the street trees on Blackberry Lane B74. An overlooked ornamental Beech sp. produced multiple mines of Stigmella tityrella. #teammoth
