Slightly more seriously. It's crazy how the entire supposed constitutional theory of Trump 2.0 is that all power is vested in this single individual, down to every last tiny detail and whenever you ask him he's like "I have no idea; ask the lawyers"

Trying to imagine if Trump told America, "Maybe you don't need 30 guns, maybe 2 guns."

You know how you can hate a photo of yourself and then see it five years later and be like oh damn I actually looked pretty good? That’s how I feel about the United States of America

@froomkin.bsky.social has the right idea here: A volunteer army tracking exactly what Trump is breaking, so we can fix it later. Lots of work is already happening, but a combined, organized, ongoing effort is crucial. It's a manifestation of faith in recovery, and a tool to help us get it done.

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

Right now we're seeing Influenza A, B, COVID, RSV, & H5N1 Bird Flu. So the President has seen to it that the MMWR is not produced for the first time in over a half-century. Complete failure of leadership, dereliction of duty, obstruction of science.

As far as I can tell, the CDC has *never* missed a week of publishing MMWR (it did not publish a print edition one week in 1995, but published an online version).

Until now.

CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) has provided real-time data and analysis about disease outbreaks and emerging health threats without a break every week since 1960.

Until today.
