Our new family member is encouraging me to take him outside - and to take more photos. I am not complaining..

Americans losing technology jobs has become a central point of discussion in the current MAGA vs Musk immigration debate. The reason the jobs are gone isn’t because of H1B visa holders. It’s because of the impact of AI. Mediocre code doesn’t require a $200k American grad or a $100k H1B (1/2)

I often go to New York City. Usually day trips on the Amtrak from D.C. for work. I always have a camera on me but I struggle to take photos there. I always end up looking up at the buildings and the skyline. NYC sometimes feels like a giant 🖕🏾to my notions of what a city can be. #photography

Spotted - a drone flying in the D.C. area! Near Regan airport. Someone do something please 😱. (/s obviously)

DC has the most spectacular sunrises. These photos are from earlier this year. I walked along the Mt Vernon trail as the sun crept up over the Potomac and Washington monument. For a sprawling metro, the DMV has plenty of space for beauty and peace. #photography #fujifilm #sunrise #dmv

Part of my family follows a religion called Jainism. Non-violence to all living things is a key part of Jainism. Every time I read Larkin's poem, I think of the Jain monks from my childhood who walk with a broom in front of them so they don't step inadvertently on an insect in their way..

I am Indian, British and live in the US. I spend a lot of time in India. I love the contrast between the wide open skies and clean lines of the US and the clutter and chaos of India. When I get fed up of one, I find peace in the other.

I grew up in the “old City” area of Vadodara (a town in Western India). Over the last 30 years the area is emptying out. The neighbourhood that I spent many a long summer is all dilapidated houses and locked doors. #photography #fujifilm #streetphotography

I love taking photos when I am back in India. No other place does the grand and the chaotic at the same time at the scale that India does. Khanderao Market has a grand Victorian facade and an absolute warren of little shops and stalls inside. #photography #blackandwhite #nikon

I have been taking photos for years - street photography, portraits, family pictures .. usually of people and urban environments. My father was a keen photographer and while he didn’t get out much in the last couple of years he had an impressive kit and loved wildlife photography.

Flower seller with lotus - Khanderao Market, Vadodara (December, 2024)

My father loved photography. I took one of his cameras to the main flower market in Vadodara this morning. He was into wildlife and I like street photography. But I think he would have liked this photo.

Spent 12 hours with Powers' 'Playground' on a flight to India. Beautifully written, thought provoking.. A book about the games people play, about memory, and what it means to be alive. Also, an excellent exploration of what AI will mean for us: rushi.luhar.org/blog/2024/11...
Playground by Richard Powers
I read most of “Playground” in a rattly old plane as it shook and juddered over the Atlantic and then the vast emptiness of Russia before landing in New Delhi. I finished the book in a …

Was listening to the Dwarkesh Patel podcast with Asianometry’s Jon Y and SemiAnalysis’s Dylan Patel and came across a passage where they talked about the challenge of moving data between GPUs when training LLMs. Realized that data movement is a problem that shows up at every scale in software.
