"As this report shows, #climate adaptation is a story unfolding in real time, in communities facing floods, farmers navigating droughts, and cities redesigning for heat resilience."

Every single day, the BBC’s coverage of Palestine is systematically racist - against Palestinians. Every day, at present, what is happening to the bodies of a few dead Israelis is considered newsworthy while the actual ongoing killing (and torture, and ethnic cleansing) of many Palestinians is not.

In a special @newscientist #COP30 podcast episode, I join @drsimevans.carbonbrief.org of @carbonbrief.org to assess progress since Paris and whether COP is fit for purpose.

It is clear we need adaptation NOW!

This is encouraging… this is the kind of ‘tech’ we need!!
Pass it on..
NEW: I wrote about the exciting world of flame retardants!

Seriously - this stuff is fascinating. I visited a firm here in Belfast treating wood with a mysterious "natural" mixture that can hold back fire.

With rising wildfires, such tech is increasingly sought-after.

What the climate crisis brings into acute focus is the collective realization that the trajectory of modernization—premised on infinite economic growth—leads to vast destruction.

Understanding this isn't doomerism. It's liberation from the chains imposed by "modernity" on the human imagination.
The 20th-century economist Robert Solow created the theory of infinite economic growth by substituting "technological innovation" for the productivity of land in his model, thereby decoupling the economy from any limits imposed by land or ecosystems.

The world took his theory as gospel.
