The Renters Rights Bill has become law. This is a huge step towards addressing our broken housing system, which has been achieved through fierce campaigning from civil society across the board.

While extremely welcome, there are still gaps. Here’s what you need to know 🧵

We’re trapped in a narrow conversation about trust and policing.

Instead of continuing to invest in policing reforms and solutions that do not work, let’s instead consider community initiatives that we know work to reduce crime - pastoral care, youth workers, mental health support.

We’re horrified to hear that another woman has been r*ped in another racially motivated attack. Women's safety and women's bodies cannot be a political football, this rise in misogynistic violence must be treated with seriousness and urgency.

Any definition of Islamophobia needs to recognise it as racism, and its structural nature.

Defining a form of racism is not an act of censorship; clear definitions protect both people and free speech.

‘Feted on stage but shut out from the levers of power’

The story of Grenadian-born cabaret king Leslie ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson is a reminder of Britain’s broader failure to sustain Black excellence beyond a performative spotlight, writes Anil Dawar for our blog ✍️

For example, in the UK, Black African households hold over 8x less wealth than White British households, while Bangladeshi households hold over 7x less (see 📊)

Racial disparities are also present in unemployment and poverty rates, with people of colour facing some of the worse outcomes.

We are outraged by the findings of this evening’s BBC Panorama investigation into the Metropolitan Police.

There can be no other logical conclusion than that the Met Police is irredeemable.

This weekend we witnessed one of the most disgraceful and distressing demonstrations of racism in British history.

Speakers including Elon Musk directly incited racist violence, calling for British people to ‘fight back’ or die.

Stephen Lawrence should be celebrating his 51st birthday today, but he was murdered in a racist attack at just 18.

As we look to the horrifying resurgence of racist violence, Stephen’s story serves as a poignant reminder of why racial justice matters.

Rest in power, Stephen. Your legacy lives on 🖤

A year on from the racist riots, our politicians are still fuelling hate. Violence doesn’t erupt from nowhere.

Migrants, Muslims and people of colour didn’t break the UK, our politicians did. It’s time to stop sowing division, and focus on the issues that really matter.

The right to protest is a fundamental tenet of the struggle for racial justice in the UK.

From the Bristol Bus Boycott, to the Black Lives Matter movement, it is critical that the freedoms of activists to challenge injustices are protected.

We need a curriculum that represents the diversity of our society, promotes genuine social cohesion, and counters the polarisation that has contributed to racist rioting across the UK.
