The US crisis is the catastrophic widening of old cracks: judicial capture and winner-takes-all extremism, now weaponized by bad faith actors. Fixing this takes deep reform, not in the interest of the ruling parties. It would give independents a chance, to the detriment of them both. Now what?

If the Supreme Court deliberately softened their language to avoid provoking a direct constitutional confrontation, then the rule of law itself was placed on the altar, not just Garcia. A judiciary that cannot or will not enforce its rulings against executive defiance becomes toothless.
