So, to be clear: Yes, I drive a Tesla. No, I’m not Team Nazi. Our family deeply dislikes what’s happening on our lands—but sadly, that’s nothing new. We’ve felt that way since the first colonizers arrived. And just like before, we’ll resist and wait it out.

Perhaps we can all pause, reflect, and consider the deeper injustices beneath superficial outrage. By acknowledging this shared humanity, maybe we can move closer to empathy and reconciliation.

I'm Indigenous, Māori to be exact, and my entire life I've been called racial slurs. Those moments of judgment and scorn based solely on who I am have left deep, lasting wounds. Strangely, now being judged for the car I drive triggers that same profound emotional hurt—
