Some things I do: write (Sarabande, Jonathan Cape/Random House, Dzanc), translate (Soho Press, Serpent’s Tail), teach, read, bind, photograph. Ideal job: walking around looking at stuff. Photos mine unless otherwise noted, e.g. profile tintype by Amy Güth.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Recent studies show that some large bats eat songbirds on night migration, plucking them out of the sky. Studies also show rats wait near bat havens and pluck them out of the sky and eat them. This is kind of a vague turducken for whatever eats the rat, I suppose.

I have a new essay (about gay porn, cicadas, internet time, and longing as mourning) up at @anotherchicagomag.bsky.social.

The piece comes from a collaborative book-length essay written alongside poets Aaron Smith & David Trinidad.

I like art best when its artifice dissolves. Pull back the curtain: It’s me, looking sheepish. Which me is almost irrelevant: I’ll answer to any name you call. Surrendering is only erotic when what…

I’d like to address all these questions about why I smell different today. What happened was, I ran out of my usual shampoo, Tobacco ’n’ Bourbon ’n’ Bullets. In the back of the cabinet I found a bottle of County Fair, which is why I smell like corndogs, cotton candy, and carny sweat. Thx for asking!

The OG
I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, "no. get out."

In about three years the entire university pivot to AI curricula and schools and programs is going to be so deeply embarrassing. We will all pretend it never happened and I will be standing there, looking at people with a mirror in my eyes. This is all so embarrassing.
