Did you read The Serpent in the Garden trade?

I see a lot of connections between Mignola and Lewis’s depictions of the afterlife, but never saw anyone else make the connection. There is a lot of stuff in Hellboy in Hell and beyond that reminds me of The Great Divorce, not to mention they both clearly love fairy tales.

Not a direct influence for me, but maybe by way of Stuart Immonen and Sara Pichelli?

Hopefully they get sent out soon!

So cool. I remember hearing throughout most of my academic life that nobody had ever seen (or at least photographed) a live giant squid. While it’s amazing what we’re able to witness now, a part of me is sad whenever we remove more of the mystery from the world.

I don’t blame anyone for being scared of spiders, snakes or whatever. It’s a natural instinct reinforced by observed behavior, harder to overcome the older you get. I think they’re cool and live in an area where it’s very unlikely to come across something venomous.

Recent conversation with my cousin - who claimed he couldn’t tell the difference between jumping spiders and a brown recluse - made me decide to publicly lean into my reputation as a bug guy more often.

giant house spiders are very docile and rarely bite. They eat pests and there's some evidence they keep venomous recluses away by competing for food. If I find one in a bad spot I just move it to a houseplant. They will go back to hiding under baseboards and behind cupboards again in a few weeks.
