What Paul Doyle did should be triggering a national conversation about car use in the same way that Dunblaine did for gun ownership

Three weeks ago when I asked my GP for another referral to mental health services for a medication review (I’ve asked three times and never hear back) I happened to get a doctor who was willing to prescribe me something herself. Still early days but so far it’s been transformative.

You saw a beautiful flower. Light, travelling 93 million miles from the sun, reflected off its surface & made its way to your retinas. Converted into electricity, it was sent to your brain. How did those electrical signals become an image of a flower in your mind? That’s right: they rode a dendron.

Did you know that shakespeare’s girlfriend made delicious dairy drinks to entice young men to act in his plays? That’s right: her milkshake brought all the boys to the bard.

this is a truly insane argument to make
If you guessed Jorombly Crubbins, you'd be correct.

last week marked three years since i gave up drinking. and honestly…. not drinking is bullshit. it’s frustrating and miserable and makes it so hard to just enjoy things. but that’s what you get for having a bad brain. here’s to another year 🥂

Your Future Our Clutter by the Fall, just a phenomenal album, one of my absolute favourites. “Weather Report 2” rivals “Bill is Dead” for “best elegiac song with mark e smith actually singing on it”

“Balan was fired after informing Musk she was worried the floor carpets could curl up under pedals in Model S vehicles, a major braking safety hazard. [Tesla lawyers] threatened to deport members of her team waiting on green card applications if she didn't resign”

Over carpet designs. Carpets.
It is difficult for me to convey how profoundly unsurprised I was reading this article, which is about the world's richest and most famous entrepreneur threatening to deport his employees for pointing out a potentially fatal safety issue with his car company's brakes

"He's Pure Evil": Former Tesla Engineer Says Elon Musk Threatened to Deport Her Team for Pointing Out a Problem With the Brakes
A Tesla engineer has accused Tesla of threatening her team with deportation after bringing up a brake safety issue with CEO Elon Musk.

reminder for UK people protesting today - do not accept a sign from the Socialist Worker's Party and certainly don't wave one around unless you remove their branding first

1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but
2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but
3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So
4. Now the LLM code points to malware.
LLMs hallucinating nonexistent software packages with plausible names leads to a new malware vulnerability: "slopsquatting."
LLMs can't stop making up software dependencies and sabotaging everything
: Hallucinated package names fuel 'slopsquatting'

Maybe it’s bc of the death of twitter or maybe I’m forgetting some or maybe I just don’t hang out in the places they’re made anymore, but have there been any new entries to the lexicon recently on the level of “milkshake duck” or “corncobbing”? Feels like a huge loss for the English language if not.

i'm reading an attempt at a diary i wrote in 2022 and it contains the sentence "Kier Starmer has pledged to resign if issued with a fixed penalty notice for eating curry in Durham." apparently this a real thing that actually happened. joke country
