Every sentence that starts with "As a cyclist myself…" is a dead giveaway that the speaker thinks bikes are only for recreation, not transportation

More broadly, "As a [X] myself..." nearly always prefaces some concern trolling bullshit that marginalizes [X]

To me, respect and reverence for an original piece of art means preserving it, warts and all, not remaking or garishly modernising it to sell back to the masses

Every time I find an old piece of Warren Spector soapboxing about how computer RPGs should go beyond character classes, dice rolls, and combat encounters in favor of dense & reactive simulations of human spaces I wonder...

...has no one ever told him about Pathologic?

Joined Nextdoor to read posts from people crashing out about new bike lanes in my city while concern trolling NIMBYs offer support

"It truly does seem, sometimes, that the goal is to intentionally punish motorists, rather than make things safer for cyclists"

I got some helpful criticism on my FF6 ATB hack:
- It makes battles a bit slower
- It makes battles unfair when used with difficulty hacks with high speed monsters
- Status effect timing is not quite right

So I went back into the workshop to rebuild it from the ground up

you can basically build full ranged but you're gonna want to do that later and take some points in unarmed for this one sequence where they make you fight a prison rat before you have any party members

classic crpgs are great because they really place so much emphasis on how you can approach any situation from [noticing you're building for stealth] oh the stealth skill doesn't work in this, it's not actually implemented

Okay, so I have been following Casey's stuff for a while, but I was floored when he opened this talk with a discussion of how Looking Glass invented the Entity Component System in 1998 for Thief: The Dark Project

YouTuber Rush Hour who shares a lot of my gaming tastes did a fun meandering video on FF9 with many tangents about RPGs, Will Smith's debut music album, the cultural nuances of piss drinking and much more

It also discusses my ATB ROMhack, check it out!

bruh this new SS2 UI is ugly

new font is too thin and small

the "CLICK START TO PROCEED" label used to be justified aligned in a very pleasing manner, now it's left aligned with unbalanced negative space

the START button is lacking the pleasing glow from text filtering

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin + Final Fantasy 5 = Bloodstained 2

!!!

It makes sense, in the last game they cribbed FF9's ability learning where you retain all mastered techniques on each weapon class

But FF5's job system is the premier RPG customization system. The big daddy
Some cool news about #Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement from an interview with IGA and SHUTARO.

The game has a class or job system; once mastered, skills can be used in other jobs, similar to some Final Fantasy games.

This is just me screaming into the void, but I feel like there is a gulf in discourse between low-level and high-level gameplay critique

I enjoy reading people who explore technical gameplay near the skill ceiling, but it can often be irrelevant for a general audience

I am always perplexed by people who beg for ports of really old console games on Steam. You can just download the ROM lol

I get it for Switch or whatever, but on PC or even a Steam Deck you can just run an emulator with a CRT filter and fan patches for a great time
