Looks like a Trevally! They love using bigger fish/people as cover.

I get that. I sell aquarium plants online sometimes and basically all anyone sees is my arm 😅

If you're cheap like me you can see if anyone nearby is tearing down a tank and buy their wood. I have a bunch of secondhand wood from MarketPlace and it didn't turn my water yellow. I just boiled it well first to kill anything on it.

Technically yes, but I would not guarantee that if you get it online it is actually treated. At your LFS you can ask which bits have been around the longest. If one has had its plant die you can probably get it way cheaper.

I think I'll avoid that with this tomato, it's way too big 🤣

This bed is small, but it is happy and healthy! When we moved in it was just a massive cordyline and about 50 lbs of spider plant, it looks much better now!

I only have 5 seed packs right now so I don't need to organise yet, but I'm sure I will soon! I'm loving having a little bit of real garden for the first time.

Oh and thank you very very much! This is my first year with a veggie garden that isn't in a tiny window box so I'm leaning A LOT

Perfect, I'll sow both and see who likes it in the shade. They can go where I had herbs that got totally shaded out.

Just googled and looks like kale is a brassica, I'll dig it out of my seed box!
January 22, 2024 at 2:26 AM
Without going out and buying anything new I have kale, Bok Choy, and lettuce. The lettuce will definitely just melt in the 95 degree days, would either of the others help?
January 22, 2024 at 2:25 AM
Right now I can't reach it 😅 but that's a good idea.

I bought it from the hardware store as a tiny plant, the variety is "Mortgage Lifter". I just bought it for the name, this is my first time having a big enough garden spot with enough light to keep a tomato happy, so to be fair I'm mostly happy it didn't die 😅
January 22, 2024 at 2:04 AM
Hrm, can't really take nitrogen out, but I can see if my hardware store has a fertilizer with more of the other nutrients and give it some. Thank you both! It's on worm castings and some tomato fertilizer to stop blossom end rot, I'll avoid this section of the garden with the next round of castings.
