Author of cozy fantasy fiction for Arkham Horror, Cobalt City, Dungeons & Dragons + more. Also wanders about Seattle arts scene and collects books.
Happy #caturday to me! Adventures of Kathlyn arrived. A very early movie novelization (published in 1914 for the ongoing 1913/14 movie serial adventure of same name) and illustrated with photos from film. The star was known for her willingness to work with big cats. The leopard shows his best side.

A friend asked if I had ever had three books out in one year before. No. This was a first for me, but very fun. 2025 saw two new novels released in the Drowned City series AND an omnibus including the first three Arkham Horror novels + two new stories from @aconytebooks.bsky.social. #writer

Walked over a mile at the grand reopening of Kerry Hall. Caught my friend Mark’s history lecture. Now onto Quasar!

My panel for Quasar, the SFWA fall online convention, will be later today. Hope to see you there! We'll be chatting about the joys and challenges of collaboration at sfwa.org.

Still processing that I had two novels published in 2025. Tomorrow I am diving into talking about how collaboration between game developer, the publisher, and the writer made the Drowned City books possible. Check out the schedule for Quasar at sfwa.org.

Back when I was writing guides to collecting children's books, I would often pick up various copies of the same book to show how covers changed. Like a 1950s edition of When We Were Young. The cover would change again in the 1960s and so on. Discounted now on Biblio: www.biblio.com/search.php?s...

Love kids books? Me too. But shelves of 20th century paperbacks and hardbacks need to find good homes. So big discounts and year end deals this week on fantastical fiction at Biblio: www.biblio.com/search.php?s...

At one point I tracked the history of all the women who flew in the first Women's Air Derby (1929), also called the Powder Puff Derby. Every pilot had a great back story on she came to fly. And bits made it into The Deadly Grimoire!

“It’s my birthday and I’ll buy books if I want to…” stretches a little longer every year. Today included a hardcover with endpapers designed by author @tkingfisher.com and the libretto of a musical seen in September.

Met with Devon, the co-host of Ouija Broads, and plans were made! Also picked up my glow-in-the-dark Stay Weird pin.

Perfect October day so I headed to Haunted Burrow Books, a Seattle bookstore specializing in horror. Signed copies of the Nightmare Quest of April May and Arcane Gamble of Harvey Walters from @aconytebooks.bsky.social. Look for them in the local authors bookcase. Perfect bookstore for Halloween.

My book collecting white whale has been the silent movie edition of Phantom of the Opera. Found an online copy listed as « acceptable » but no mention of illustrations. But under $30! So I ordered it. It has all 4 b/w stills and both double page color spreads! Halloween treat!

The books have arrived! The Arcane Gamble of Harvey Walters looks amazing — thanks @aconytebooks.bsky.social!

Twenty-four hours to go and Harvey Walters will be racing across Arkham to save the city in the latest release from @aconytebooks.bsky.social.

Ran away from chores for lunch out. Rewarded with rainbow over Dock 7 sign. May your Saturday be equally lucky!

I bought three hardbacks and a paperback last week. Which means something has to leave so the new books have shelf space. Sale going on Biblio if you're looking for some cozy or Gothic reading! LostLoves Books on www.biblio.com/bookstore/lo...

The fairly restrained haul from Seattle Antiquarian Book Fair yesterday: Box of Delights (Folio, 2012), The Tempest (Dulac illustrations, 1916 Christmas inscription), and an Ace Double (1962).

Great day at Seattle Antiquarian Book Fair — so much fun discussing books of all types.

Spooktacular sale on Biblio including a number of 1970s Gothics and suspense stories. It's cozy reading for fall:

Been on a book buying spree. So added more older titles to LostLoves Books on Biblio. These lovelies are ready for new homes so their shelf space can go to the newbies. Also helps finance the indie book purchases and donations to literary charities. www.biblio.com/bookstore/lo...

Looking forward to another online convention. I've been invited to speak at SFWA Quasar in November. The initial list of panels looks intriguing. Really designed for writers at all stages of their careers.
October 1, 2025 at 3:00 PM
The two new books published in 2025 are my first attempt at a duo where there's actual sequel as opposed to "happens in the same world where some characters encounter each other again." Kudos to everyone at @aconytebooks.bsky.social for making this possible! And so pretty!

Two more events tomorrow at Flights of Foundry. 125 Years of Oz and a Chill-n-Chat. See you there!

Harvey Walters has seen it all. He has a library stuffed full of occult knowledge and his head is full of plans. But will it be enough to save the city that he loves? Available for pre-order from your favorite bookseller or @aconytebooks.bsky.social.
