Author of cozy fantasy fiction for Arkham Horror, Cobalt City, Dungeons & Dragons + more. Also wanders about Seattle arts scene and collects books.
Holiday madness begins. Somewhere in Seattle is a mailroom with orange mailboxes, white tile floor, and the slippers ordered for Christmas gift. Sadly my mailroom has silver mailboxes and carpet.

All the weekend plans were sidelined by sniffles. So a day of chicken soup (homemade) for lunch followed by leftover pumpkin pie (it's a veggie) and wrapping up with salmon (and more veggies, real veggies) for dinner. Enjoying college football featuring people being athletic during snow tonight.

All true. Follow Kate's whole thread on how authors get paid (or not) in traditional publishing. My fun history trivia: full credit returns started to entice bookstores to buy books during the Great Depression. Publishers don't like the returns risk but nobody has figured out how to end it either.
The publisher pays you based on what bookstores (not customers) buy, BUT they hold back a chunk because bookstores can return books later for a full refund, and how many returns you will get can be hard to predict. 8/

My plunge into the earliest photoplays yielded Perils of Pauline (1914). The serial and the book followed the Adventures of Kathlyn's success. The novelization has 15 photos. Including this gem featuring Pearl White and unidentified actor in a gorilla suit! Happy Monday!

Happy #caturday to me! Adventures of Kathlyn arrived. A very early movie novelization (published in 1914 for the ongoing 1913/14 movie serial adventure of same name) and illustrated with photos from film. The star was known for her willingness to work with big cats. The leopard shows his best side.

A friend asked if I had ever had three books out in one year before. No. This was a first for me, but very fun. 2025 saw two new novels released in the Drowned City series AND an omnibus including the first three Arkham Horror novels + two new stories from @aconytebooks.bsky.social. #writer

Apparently it’s hard to stop outlining into the “save the cat” beats. I now have a duology. What is your favorite outline or story organizing technique?#WritingCommunity

Playing with the “save the cat” outline format after listening to a Quasar panel from @sfwa.org. This is maybe too much fun.

Diving down research rabbit holes, I ordered the novelization of a silent movie action serial which pioneered cliffhanger endings. Doesn't everyone needs more 1914 action fiction on their shelves? There's lions. Tried to explain to my #writing meet-up today. They looked like
simba and nala from the lion king are sitting next to each other and looking up at the sky .

The review had me at "Morris Dancing and sinister rabbit" but toss in the conductor is named Finnegan Downie Dear and I'm trying to figure out how I could transport myself to Opera North. If you are near Leeds, let me know how it is. www.theguardian.com/music/2025/n...

Listened to a fascinating lecture about Gutenberg and the early days of printing while sorting and recycling a pile of printed mail. The irony is not lost on me. But I love learning about how Gutenberg printed small projects, like school books, now lost to history. Thanks Book Club of Washington
