Great piece by the NYT on the crappy economics of being a toxic right-wing influencer on X. Delightful read.

This week I spoke to John*: a specialist doctor in his seventies, who spent more than 40 years working for the NHS in various cities around the UK, before moving to Dubai six years ago. Read to the end for BBC habits, a Blackpool analogy and Brexit blues. leavingbritain.substack.com/p/why-john-l...

Glad to see this warning from Joe Biden in his final address to the nation:

“Today, an oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power and influence that literally threatens our entire democracy, our basic rights and freedoms, and a fair shot for everyone to get ahead”

Any woman who has ever received online abuse has some understanding of what Jess Philips is now exposed to, but it is on an entirely different level.
It is dangerous to her safety.
Yes, it is diplomatically “delicate”. But if you do nothing it is an admission of your own impotence.
A capitulation.
Elon Musk, owner of X, tweeted that Home Office Minister Jess Phillips "deserves to be in prison" and labelled her a "rape genocide apologist"

This is the type of radicalised content that socialises people towards violence against Ministers and MPs

Everyone is so sick. I am recovering from 10-day bronchitis, my partner is now down. Everyone I know who’s got on a plane in the past fortnight is coughing. Is there a shadow pandemic happening? Or just regular seasonal stuff?

I knew that by going to the UK in the week before Christmas I would get sick. I joked about it every time I had one drink too-many, stood outside a pub in whipping rain, and/or had someone cough in my face. But I had forgotten what it was like to be down this bad. Dubai has turned me soft.

Absolutely. And those at the lower percentages, accuse those at the higher percentages of “virtue signalling”
This is sort of fascinating because if you were to turn on pretty much any talk radio station or pick up any tabloid, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was the inverse.
