I think what radicalized me was having to stand in front of a Catholic priest as a child and reciting "thou shall not covet thy neighbor's wife" and NOBODY in the room seeing anything wrong with a little girl being taught that women are objects that belong to men.

it is so, so important to remember how much of the horror we are currently enduring came about because a small cohort of terminally fragile adult babies couldn’t handle being criticized on Twitter

I had an art teacher explain how we illustrators are considered “art whores” to our fine art brethren.
He tried to say that it’s not true, we are valid artists!

Me: FUCK YA! I’m an ART WHORE!
Teach: N…no that’s not the point.
Me: I’LL DRAW WHATEVER YOU WANT, BITCHES! PAY ME!
Teach: Jesus
Me: MONEY!

Here’s the bottom line for what’s going on with Grok - if the owner of the website is putting his thumb on the scale hard enough for the chatbot to turn into Goebbels, you should be deeply concerned about what he’s doing to the algorithm that you can’t so easily see, and what it’s doing to you

"No paradox of contemporary politics is filled with a more poignant irony than the discrepancy between the efforts of well-meaning idealists who stubbornly insist on regarding as 'inalienable' those human rights, which are enjoyed only by the citizens of the most prosperous and civilized counties,
"The only direct, unadulterated consequence of nineteenth-century antisemitic movements was not Nazism but, on the contrary, Zionism, which, at least in its Western ideological form, was a kind of counterideology, the 'answer' to antisemitism." Hannah Arendt, The Origin of Totalitarianism
I've only just met Hannah Arendt and I kind of want to kiss her on the mouth

Remembering when in 2003 my high school teacher wheeled a tv in and made us watch the US bombing Iraq on CNN for an hour.

I believe American nostalgia elevates certain decades as particular oases of calm and innocence amid turmoil. These "happy decades" fall every 30 years -- the 1890s, 1920s, 1950s, and 1980s.

Thus, the 2010s will likely become the next one. That idea seemed absurd to me at the time, yet now...

Tourists got on my bus this afternoon and asked the driver how to buy tickets. Driver didn't speak English (we're in Italy). Tourists (four ladies) chose to sit anyway. Inspectors were on them in a moment demanding they pay a fee for riding without tickets (€42 each).

Park manager after she had to help a Palestinian family: "How can these people be always at war! They had the Crusades and everything!" I deadass am about to give a serious historical answer when she adds, "It's because they killed Jesus Christ, isn't it?"

Why do people squash ants so absentmindedly? They're just scurrying around looking for food, not hurting anyone?

We spotted an old lady sitting alone at the mall, looks like she's fainted, cup upside down, forehead sitting directly on the hot coffee spilled over the table. As we try calling her a small crowd gathers, someone goes looking for the woman who was at the table with her.
