Dreaming of the movies.
Really enjoyed this episode.
I talked to the QAA boys about the MAHA Institute, what's going on with ACIP, and whether germ theory is real according to our literal HHS secretary. Always delightful to chat with them: open.spotify.com/episode/3ZtB...

April (Dea Kulumbegashvili): Absolutely flattened by this one. A pro-abortion drama that manifests the weight of the loneliness that comes from performing a thankless, traumatizing job into a withered husk creature, empty space and a cacophonous soundscape. Major.

This 2003 portrait of Mike Leigh by Stuart Pearson Wright has always been a favorite.

And of course, it’s great to see Leigh’s already at work on his next film — deadline.com/2025/01/mike...

In North America, I'm struck by the whole realtors (and lawyers) as personalities/selling points of their services. Not at all a thing in the UK.
Absolutely unbelievable ad in the community theater playbill.

Rewatching Twin Peaks currently. We are deep into the second series and this must be the most repeated establishing shot. I love it.

Jules Feiffer completely innovated political cartoons, expanding beyond one-panel punchlines and visual tropes by featuring ordinary people, often in monologue, being riled, resigned, grousing—and dancing.

Straight up one of the best to ever do it.

RIP to Jules Fieffer! Little Murders and Popeye are two of my absolute favourites, and I thank them for introducing me to his comic strip work. I'm immediately picking Sick, Sick, Sick up off my shelf when I get home.
RIP to the absolute legend Jules Feiffer: political cartoonist, social satirist, comics historian, illustrated the Phantom Tollbooth, wrote screenplays for Robert Altman and Alain Resnais—and that’s the short version

Rewatched Clay Tatum and Whitmer Thomas' THE CIVIL DEAD today and I honestly think it's a really overlooked film about loneliness. It's also really funny. Available on Amazon prime in the UK.

Bizarre! I'm looking forward to seeing all of Lynch's boundless creativity shared here over the next few months or so.
That time a shirtless, mud-spattered David Lynch emerged from a dirt hut in his backyard with a nude model and talked about his experimental garage rock album about the Valley to French TV.

I miss him.
