Congrats to David and Sophie of @inklingwood.bsky.social on the release of Foolish Mortals!

It was almost exactly 12 years ago David and I first met up in California at the start of both our careers. Amazing to finally see this long awaited passion project come to life. I can't wait to play!

I got in line for Trick 'r Treat since it was my favorite house last year, but realized the queue was moving much more slowly than I wanted to stay out. We wandered some more scare zones and walked on the Revolution for a night ride before heading home.

With that, my Halloween season is now over!

The maze in question was the new for 2025 offering, "Carnage presented by M&M'S®".

Much better than Stranger Things last year (not a high bar to clear, likely why Netflix didn't renew it), but still very random. At one point we're in a restaurant? The smaller groups mean I got one good jump scare.

One last Halloweeny thing before the season ended last night: went up to Magic Mountain to take advantage of the free haunted house wristband I have on my legacy membership.

Only stayed for 2.5 hours, but was able to do a handful of coasters plus one maze.

I skipped the two self-referential mazes, but was the very last person admitted to The Hanging on my way to the exit.

Some parts are amusing. There's UEU and Six Flags merger jokes. I chuckled at the WEAPONS run to Yakity-Sax. But it's just random references, and it gets tiring quickly.

Last for me, new for '25, is Mary: The Haunting of Worth House.

Like a more modern take on Eight Fingers Nine, and nearly as good. Some nice special effects, although overall the sets are a bit smaller scale. A decent successor to Trick or Treat.

Okay, Eight Fingers Nine: The Boogeyman.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but it ended up one of my favorites of the night. I like focusing on a single character, and the ye olde Puritan setting gives some strong The VVitch vibes, with great sets.

But we got backed up often, at least good for photos.

Widows was kitschy fun. I like when grannies can give jump scares. Among the Knott's Scary Farm tradition of mashing up two concepts to make a maze theme, this one is fairly clever.

But after a good introduction, the second half got a little too repetitive once the spiderweb motif settled in.

New this year: The Zoo.

Interesting sci-fi concept that puts its scare actors in some fun roles playing the various animal mutants.

However, the sets are a fairly mundane collection of industrial hallways with a few labs. Don't know how the flashlight-only version worked with so little to see.

My first time doing The Grimoire on its last night ever.

I think this was a cool concept? We're at a camp with an evil book that seems to zap us back in time to World War 1 with some monochrome lighting. And then back to the camp. Not very clear. But I'm glad to do it before it goes away forever.

First time doing Room 13 in the Gore-ing 20s. I haven't heard good things. So it might have exceeded my low expectations.

Very vibey, and the art deco Guilded Age theme comes across very well. I liked a fake balcony effect.

But yeah, not very scary at all.
