Be aware there's some misinformation on this topic. Musk's spokespeople have said he's never given a dime to EA. Thiel has donated to MIRI, a Rationalist group that's not EA, for illegible reasons. EA's most prominent critics do this (pictured) in a way that is not truthseeking

EA is part of TESCREAL. The above-mentioned donation to FLI was the basis of Torres claiming he donated. It's technically true while obscuring the greater truth which is that Musk barely donates to anyone. TESCREAL is a conspiracy theory where Torres has done this b/c Torres has an axe to grind

Can you substantiate this please? There is counter evidence e.g. the EA in TESCREAL is majority centre-left. Dustin Muskovitz from EA is the second largest donor to the Democratic Party. All in all it's my position that TESCREAL is a conspiracy theory

But it obscures more than it clarifies. Musk is not a thought leader or even a player in effective altruism, which is part of the acronym. He's not involved but now held up as an exemplar of it by people misinformed. He had bare minimal involvement only. EA does not guide his decisions or vice versa
