Architect, based in London, UK. Keen to improve my sketching!
Quick #pencilsketch on the Southbank London - man checks for directions (on his phone... or more likely reads an email... ) just enough time stopped for me to get the basics... Then helpfully stopped a bit closer to me!

Also did a quick #watercolour...
15mins #Lifedrawing pose... I remember feeling thrilled adding two brushes of faint grey shadow, not knowing if it would help!
It's like the satisfaction from an unexpectedly great shot in cricket (or golf), in an otherwise really short (long) innings (round)!

Tried pastels for the first time too, really liked them for quick espressive mark making for short poses!
Trying three colours in combination, like I'd seen by Watteau recently at the British Museum - 'aux trois crayons'!? White didn't work?!
Loved it, and will try again!

#Lifedrawing again last night at the clock house tavern in Peckham Rye! Really great, range of short and long poses, as usual bits turn out well, others less so. Getting better!
This was an 18 minute #pencilsketch. Pleased with how most of it turned out (apart from one tiny foot!)

5mins #pencilsketch study of Honore Daumier drawing 'Rue Trasnonian'

Some of my #watercolour paintings from tonight's #Lifedrawing session. 15 and 20minute poses. Again really like aspects... But I'm terrible at faces generally! Also they feel washed out and without definition... Tempted to go over now (with pen?) just as a test??!

Quick twirl around the drawing galleries of the British Museum, #pencilsketch study of a couple of Watteau drawings from 1716. Didn't know his work, nor the black, red and white chalk technique. Feel like I can see the speed and ease in his strokes...

Great fun! Particularly good being forced to work to time! Looking forward to next month.

Attended #Lifedrawing at the clock house tavern in Peckham Rye tonight, was great!
Different timings for each pose, 25mins down to 30 seconds! And excitingly I finally got my #watercolour brush pens out after maybe 20 years under the bed! Just as I remember: fun, challenging, room to improve.

Speedy #pencilsketch study of the Raphael painting 'the woman with the veil' #portraitchallenge...
My usual pattern - I set a timer for 4 minutes, to try to sketch faster... But when it goes off I'm not happy it's good enough! Sneaked it up to 6½ minutes...needed more! 😂

A better version of her face! Glad I had a go at this challenge... So often I end up drawing what I think is supposed to be there, not what I observe! This pose was so unusual I had to try to pay more attention.

New pencil sketch of an old #portraitchallenge, which I didn't dare to attempt at the time, because of the really difficult perspective of her face! 'The young musician' by Attilio Andreoli. 12 minutes.
Thanks again @studioteabreak.bsky.social!

Long time no sketch... had a go at the #portraitchallenge... Pencil sketch Study of the painting 'Young man reading' by Smigelschi, 1892. Bits of it I like, felt nice to draw again! 11minutes.

Another great 45mins #sketching at the British Museum today. I found a good spot which gave me about 3 minutes to capture people as they waited for their platform lift! Some better than others...

Enjoyed a quick #pencilsketch at lunch today - of people enjoying the sunshine along the Southbank in London.
I needed this - good for my mental health! So much going on in the world, & life generally, I remembered to switch off the news, & do something mindful. #urbansketching

Study of Jean Metzinger Cubist painting Soldier at a game of chess, 1914-15. Sneaked in Picassos Bottle of Vieux etc & Newspaper (1913)...to get a recent headline in...#kleineKunstklasse

This was the original artwork... I was looking for something which showed a sense of danger in a world of populism, I hadn't heard of Grosz but was great to learn!
