My take: books aren't dying, just fluctuating. Sales are at pre-pandemic levels last I looked. The influence of AI is muddying things, men don't read nearly as much as women now, Romance(tasy) and YA are doing well, as is Horror, though its more niche. Romance is to books what horror is to movies.
