ATLANTIS (1991) - Luc Besson’s undersea doc is footage he shot in the aftermath of THE BIG BLUE, set to ‘90s Euro trance music. Like getting high and wondering the local aquarium while listening to a royalty free tribute to Zooropa, but actually not quite as fun.

I would say that I want to be the guy who gets to choose what expression action figures have on their faces, but that guy is already doing an incredible job. No notes.

Last month, my wife and I took a trip to Pigeon Forge, a place that is like Las Vegas, but run on rock candy instead of sin. I wanted to share a few of the things I experienced and learned during my trip to the land of Dolly Parton. Read at your own risk.

THE LAST BATTLE (1983) - Le Mad Max. Problematic director Luc Besson’s debut is a black and white, wordless film about dudes living their worst lives in a post-apocalyptic France. Bleak yet frequently funny, the film features an impossibly young Jean Reno doing his best Lord Humongous! Plus synths!

Important question: Does Ghost Rider have musculature everywhere besides his head or is he a walking skeleton? The evidence is confounding. Looking for experts in the field of supernatural stuntmen to weigh in.

Hey Houston! Join me at the River Oaks Theatre for a mystery movie screening. It's an underseen gem from one of the favorite filmmakers of film sickos everywhere. This is a movie that almost never gets screened, and we're showing a new restoration!

Last night was my ninth time seeing Murder by Death. It was a bittersweet experience as this is their farewell tour. Its been six years since they’ve done a show in Houston and while I’ve always been willing to travel for a show (Colorado, Tennessee, Toronto), it was great to see them back home.

I’m rereading WHERE WOLF for the first time in a few years in preparation for the final edit of its sequel and, not to toot my own horn, but this book is pretty funny. It’s easy to get discouraged with my writing but it’s a good feeling to read something I wrote and discover I still like it.

Going through photos from our trip to Pigeon Forge last weekend and grateful for my wife capturing the childlike wonder I experienced while eating pancakes in a restaurant with 100 animatronic chickens that would sing to you while you are.

I've not been able to get REALM OF SATAN out of my head since I watched it recently. It's a documentary (kinda?) about the Church of Satan that focuses on the mundanity that comes with worshiping the devil. No talking head interviews, no context - just Satanists doing goofy stuff. It's incredible.

WHO TOOK TOBY RINALDI? was my vacation read and it might just be Gregory Mcdonald’s masterpiece. An ensemble thriller about an eight-year-old son of a foreign diplomat who, more than escaping from his kidnapper, just wants to visit Fantazyland, the happiest place on earth.

We went to Dolly Parton’s Stampede, which used to be a racist dinner and a show where you rooted on the south in a civil war reenactment but now is a place where you can eat a whole chicken while learning about the birth of Jesus.

Why, yes, I do think I will stop at the Moon Pie General Store and Book Warehouse. Where else can I pick up horror novels from my favorite authors and guava-flavored moon pies.

Marvel in the ‘70s could be a hotbed of ill-advised story ideas. Take GUNHAWKS, a buddy gunslinger comic about an ex-slave who fought for the confederacy to protect “a way of life” from yankee scum. It’s like if somebody from the south made BLAZING SADDLES.
