This is a perfect example of Timothy Snyder's "negative freedoms" (I am free from paying a lot of taxes) versus "positive freedoms" (I have the freedoms that come from having ready access to healthcare, child support, good schools, etc).
An over-emphasis on negative freedoms leaves us less free.
