I suspect if they thought the answer wasn't a clear yes, they'd steer away.

When I saw that video with Culshaw doing his impression I felt very uncomfortable - do we even know if he gave the nod for that?

This version of IT is fascinating in that there can be really dark themes and bursts of violence, but it has this strange plastic sheen over it as well. Remember watching Chapter 2 when the fortune cookies came alive and realised maybe the problem is that the story is only interesting with the kids.

That bike chase sequence looked appalling - like something out of Goosebumps.

And the clock is ticking so they need to have lots of this up and running pretty soon.

As I said, the only real comparison I can think of is Godzilla, which can go from sombre nuclear allegory to fun space adventures from film to film or more recentl, political satire to historical melodrama.

And there's no point even trying to retrospectively agree a continuity because it'll be blown out of the water nine years from now. Just make some Bond movies.

That's what I say, but it depends on whether they want to continue to have all the advertising stuff and I would assume contemporary is cheaper?

I think they should give Thunderball another crack with Daniel Craig coming back, but in a way that doesn't feel quite right.

I could be wrong, but I think Bond will be the next character since Holmes that could be successfully moulded into different formats, time periods, etc, which is different from a Superman or Batman, for example.

I do remember seeing the film and there were audience members convinced there would be a twist in the next film about how he survived.

It's like Godzilla films which have their eras. That was the EON era. This is the Amazon era.

I've said before, the way to go is to do a Bond set in the 1950s.

Alien: Earth does some really fun stuff in this area.
November 10, 2025 at 9:31 PM
I'm not 100% convinced I want to see these characters directly interacting with the Alien itself, but this sort of bridge is fun. It was interesting how the WY mission in Badlands ties in nicely with Alien: Earth as well.

When I heard Weyland-Yutani would feature I was fearing a bunch of shared universe stuff when in fact they used it because from a story telling perspective it meant they didn't have to build any additional backstory from scratch and could get on with the story.

I had little to no expectations for First Kill, but once I realised where it was going, I had such a blast with it. I really hope they can pull it off again with this one.

Sadly, they never let us go up and try and play God before being driven mad by our creations.
November 10, 2025 at 4:17 PM
I remember Mission Impossible making a huge deal out of Cruise doing a real Halo jump out of a plane. Looked amazing in the behind the scenes videos, but in the film, they added CG weather and other effects that just made it look fake. Why bother?

And bring back Trouble at the Top.

Anyway, my pitch for DG would be to create a channel incorporating BBC4 and BBC3 and call it BBC2.

I also think people (like myself) around age 40 got to know them via The Dance which was a big album for my parents when I was a teenager.
