I imagine many people are pleased the first snowfall of the year in the GTA #HamOnt occurred on the weekend because when it occurs on a workday the commute home is a nightmare as we go through the annual ritual of fools having forgotten how to drive in winter road conditions.

Early morning shadows and frost on front lawns.

There was a coyote barking about 2 backyards over. I got my dog to bark back and it sounds like the coyote approached to the next door neighbour's yard. What I didnt expect was that for the next half hour my dog was all amped up, perched up on the furniture barking at the back windows.

My final act as I leave Kingston #QueensU Homecoming - buying a fresh baguette from Pan Chancho which I will consume on the drive home as my late lunch/early dinner - yes, I will eat the whole baguette myself, I have walked/cycled across France & Spain so I know it is a fulfilling meal.

I brought my #Queensu Artsci'95 jacket out of storage for Homecoming and at some point this weekend I reached into an inner pocket and found the ticket stubs to the Homecoming games for the 5th and 10th yr reunions in 2000 and 2005.

In Kingston for #Queensu Homecoming.

In the early 1990s this locale was home of a revered late-nite eatery by the name of King of Donair.
Today, it is named House of Donair.
I hope it is of the same unbroken lineage, of sacred donair knowledge passed down through the generations...

Currently in Kingston for #Queensu Homecoming.

A story of inflation:
In the early 1990s, this Burger King at Princess St & Division in Kingston Ontario offered 5 Whoppers for $5 on Tuesday evenings. Now, they are offering 2 Whoppers for $10 & telling you it is some sort of "deal". Hmmkayyy budday.

You learn something new every day no matter how old you are. I'm walking the dog in Johnson Tew Park & came upon this sign next to a bird house 'Do Not Disturb! Ribbons Protect Bluebirds From Predatory House Sparrows'.
Huh, all these decades & I thought house sparrows were harmless to native birds.

It is so hot on one of the last days of September that there's a snake sunning itself on the sidewalk in front of my house. A very rare thing to say here in #HamOnt.

First tray of empanadas - done! #Chile 🇨🇦🇨🇱
September 21, 2025 at 3:48 PM
Getting ready to make my first batch of empanadas for my family's 18th de septiembre 🇨🇱 get together today. Chilean-style empanadas includes some raisins, olive, and a slice of hard boiled egg, baked in the oven. #Chile 🇨🇦🇨🇱

Stage 1 of making a lot of empanadas de pino for my family's 18th de septiembre 🇨🇱 get together tomorrow (pino must be made the day before). My mom is making the empanadas de queso and my sister is making the ensalada chilena and pebre. Ohh it's gonna be good. Viva Chile! 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱

I think one of the neighbourhood wild rabbits met its end here last night - all this fur wasn't here yesterday.

Last Lake Huron sunset for me this summer. I'll take a westward-facing #GreatLakes cottage vacation over any other freshwater summer vacation anywhere.

Two gulls, three vultures, another four vultures circling overheard, must be a larger fish carcass this time.

Sure enough it's a good-sized one. Looks like a sturgeon. But, based on how how large #GreatLakes sturgeon can get, I don't know how old this one is. I put my foot in the pic for scale.

Lake Huron sunsets rarely disappoint. #GreatLakes

@mikeboothlab.bsky.social A recently deceased one, by the looks of its condition. washed up on the beach this morning. Again, gone (taken by the seagulls or turkey vultures) by the time I returned a little while later.

If anyone has ever wondered if tensions have declined in Ipperwash since 1995, my educated guess would be, Yes and No, pretty sure the tension is always there, simmering at the surface.

Hello #GreatLakes ichthyologists, what fish species is this? There are three dead carcasses in a very short stretch of Ipperwash Beach (Cdn side of southern Lake Huron), very recently washed up as the turkey vultures just found them and when I returned 30 min later the carcasses were gone.

We have our own cathedrals here in Dundas #HamOnt with the Niagara Escarpment and abundant hiking trails.

There are plenty of rabbits in our backyard. There was a nest amongst our hostas last month. Recently I saw a larger adult rabbit chase away a small young-of-the-year (YOY) rabbit. Is this a regular thing? Once kits reach a certain age the mom is like 'hey this is MY patch of clover, go away'?

An "interesting internet journey" today.
I need an adjustable height work stand, saw a neighbour w/ one. Took a pic w/ Google Lens, found the stand at Cdn Tire. Checked reviews. 27 of 30 reviews were "incentivized". The 3 "no strings attached" reviews? Two gave it one-star. Not buying this product.
