Norwegian govt wants to revise the ethical guidelines for the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund. Why? The ethical council was about to look into the role of big tech in wars and conflict, which could have lead to the exclusion of the likes of Alphabet and Microsoft

And Norway's fund has specific exclusion rules for fossil fuels. That doesn't mean there is no investment in fossil fuels, but there is less of it in the investment mix than your average indexed fund, for example. Yes, it's a double standard. But better than no standard.

Of course Norway has an obligation to invest ethically. But that applies regardless of where the money comes from, not because of it. It applies especially to Norway and other countries that have made wealth from activities that are harmful, but not only to them.

and does its best to identify companies that breach those rules. It is labelled by others as the standard, but that doesn't mean it always gets it right, which is a high bar.

Selectively calling out countries / entities that are making some effort and are transparent enough to identify issues is what frustrates me, and the endless context of "the country claims to be a good actor but...".
