"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain" is a silly saying because it's inherently unfalsifiable.
Someone could live 100 years as a hero then die peacefully in his sleep, and all you have to say is "well yeah he just didn't live long enough to become a villain."

Sometimes I wonder if the companies that made those "200*" novelty glasses for New Years Eve parties ever recovered from their loss after 2010.
