Quandum scientist come snapper with pretensions to tech knowledge in too many areas to be good at any of them. Now long retired and working hard at staying alive.

Tempus fuggit certainly!

He says from a position of far far greater age.

Yup; he challenged one and that's what all greats do.

By way of contrast: look for the works of Markéta Luskačova who still represents the same tradtion as the earlier Picture Post snappers. That's what Martin was breaking away from, whilst retaining the humanity.

Whilst I freely confess I didn't then much like the style of his pictures he was a great photographer in much the same compassionate tradition as the documentary snappers of Picture Post such as Bill Brandt, Grace Robertson and Bert Hardy. Later, I learned to like his pictures. He'll be missed.

I met Martin back in the 80s when he was on a short list to guest lecture at a couple of the colleges where I was also a visiting lecturer. We then met a few times at the Photographer's Gallery in its old premises in Leicester Square. He was always a complete gent.

Which reputable society doesn't have a functional online membership scheme?
Which reputable society only accepts cheques?
Which reputable society doesn't reply to email or online messaging?
Which reputable society doesn't have a membership gift option?

Oh, wait. That would be the LNHS!

This in turn spreads a lot further: far too many developing nations were exposed to massive uses of glycophosates pushed by Monsanto as a means of improving agricultural outputs for their export markets. Guess who was also supplying the seeds for those markets.

This is 2 decades overdue!

The worst bit of this is that back in 2002/3 WHO used the paper as grounds to certify roundup as not carcinogenic and that in turn was used in an evidential manner by a lot of governments around the world when they addressed licensing/banning issues. UK's HMG did exactly that.

Have had that discussion with them in the past: allegedly it's because different vendors have different sales and return policies. Didn't believe it then. Don't believe it now.

Ah, but she's playing to an audience of adolescents!

There are similar moments to be had, in the context or opression and political insanity, from a careful study of Peter Barkworth's rendition of "Professional Foul"

Tom Stoppard was/is grossly undervalued playwright. Sadly missed. He should have had the Nobel.

Lovely, but missing out the Karez/Quanat systems of Indus Valley Balochistan and Mesopotamia.

"Venezuela is not waging war on America or Americans"

True, but not the whole of the story. Venezuela isn't the wee poor innocent in global affairs.

Point of order: not all known use of, merely all digitally recorded use.
There's vast swathes of material that's not yet been recorded in digital form.

Sadly, yes.

Once upon a time Streetcar and other such car clubs were being pushed fairly heavily for a lot of obvious reasons.

What isn't clear is why car clubs of this kind aren't economically viable here in the UK. Are the tax incentives and grants not sufficient?

Does language determine consciusness or consciousness determine language?

Perhaps the AI progenitors need to read de Saussure on Semiotics and signification.
