It's been my favorite film since it came out. I can't think of another piece of science fiction that is actually that predictive (not even that we should judge sci-fi by that metric). The saddest thing is that we didn't even need as dire a crisis as imminent extinction to trudge down that path.

a thought i’ll put out there: it is not the ideological moderation that is the electoral problem, it is that selecting for candidates who chase popular issue positions is necessarily selecting for candidates who exude the kind of focused-group affect that voters genuinely hate
