Yes! Can’t even count the number of times admin and district admin have said, “You don’t have to read the whole book. Do excerpts.”
When folks lament the loss of the love of reading, I always tell this story…I was teaching To Kill a Mockingbird to 8th graders. My principal observed me and asked if I really needed to teach the entire book. He said the kids would get the gist and learn the standards without needing the whole book.
