A great egret (Ardea alba) steps through the grass at Isleta Lakes, New Mexico on January 9, 2026. Given the down at the end of its beak, it must have been preening before I arrived.

Our friend the San Lorenzo Harlequin Toad is rather dull compared to many other Harlequin Toads, which tend to have bright colors! They live in several small areas in high-altitude mountain forests of Colombia! (photo by Alejandro Lopez)
