Our friend the Spiny Slender Toad is a stream toad who lives throughout much of Borneo! They are in genus Ansonia, also known as Stream Toads, because they spawn in fast moving streams and have tadpoles adapted to life in fast-moving water! (photo by Carey Knox Southern Scales)
A slender, very spiny grey toad! They are darker on their back and fading to a lighter color on their belly! Many of their spines have a reddish tint! They are relaxing on a broad green leaf!

🐸Eastern American toad (Anaxyrus americanus americanus).

Max size for males 85 mm (3.3"), for females 110 mm (4.3").

Found in most of eastern Canada and eastern USA except for Florida.

Considered Least Concern by the IUCN.

After ELEVEN YEARS of work, today I finally submitted my 205-page monograph on the diamond frogs of Madagascar, genus Rhombophryne, in which we are describing several new species. Feels so good to finally have it submitted. I can't wait to share the new species with you all! 🧪🐸🟤💎
A gloriously rotund brown frog flecked with burnt umber, resting on a dead leaf. This is the iconic Rhombophryne testudo. He is a thing of beauty.

Max. size for males 43 mm (1.7"), for females 50 mm (2").

Found in most of mainland Europe as far north as Denmark and southern Sweden as well as in the east to western Ukraine.

Considered Least Concern by the IUCN.

After several failed attempts, we finally found a Turtle Frog (Myobatrachus gouldii). Endemic to SW Australia, they only emerge a few nights a year to find mates.

The Frog 🐸 of the Week is the Mindo Harlequin Toad (Atelopus mindoensis) from Ecuador. The toad disappeared from 1989 to 2019 before a handful of toads were rediscovered. Unfortunately, its believed there's less than 50 of them left.

Max. size ~6 cm (~2,3"). Females tend to be larger than males.

Found in Colombia, but only within an area of less than 5000 km² (1931 square miles).

Threatened by habitat destruction.

Considered Endangered by the IUCN.

The Frog 🐸 of the Week is the Tropical Clawed Frog (Xenopus tropicalis) from western Africa. It is the smaller cousin of the African Clawed Frog and has been introduced into the USA as well.
