edtech and digital /cyber strategy/ advisor against tech enabled harm/ domestic abuse #edtech #education #harmreduction she/her

I like to re-share this picture of me presenting at Google to an audience including the FBI, because yes, I will fight for digital rights and better privacy and security by design. And I will have great hair while I rip apart tech bro work and egos. Especially edtech egos.
Yesterday I did a presentation on trusted adults and several children told me they use chat gpt for advice ..

In the same schools that recommend that product while ticking compliance boxes for “we covered radicalisation and disinformation”

The adults need the advice

What I find funny is allll the screen free parents watch this and even fetish material on TikTok and don’t see it for what it is

All I will say is we have this moral panic about banning children from being online, while the U.K. prime minister enables YouTube memes with 6 year olds and we have a royal princess (so thin she’d be banned as a “pro ana” account years ago) doing “child mental health” visits.
It isn’t about safety

If I have to see one more close up video of a dirty, un groomed bearded white dude in cyber security on my social media ..

Pls. Get these dudes some media training or maybe real job. Or just a shower and a Turkish barber

Social media is so dangerous that we need to get the entire population to age verify, which is why the Prime minister is reinforcing an internet meme with children too young to be online. According to his own policies.

Please make it make sense.

I tell you, the adults and their damn phones …

Adults created a world of gamification, social media and an education system that teaches to tests.. and yet they want to blame children for attention spans and device addiction… babe..the adults are the problem

Tech companies don’t care about fines. This is however a great way to tie everyone’s online activity to their ID and to make money for sketchy age verification companies, who also get breached.
I don’t see how any of this is a win for ethics or child welfare

I certainly hope both of them get help with their addictions and mental health issues.

November 2025 Well, isn’t timing a funny old thing. Kate Middleton issued a statement  declaring that “addiction is not a choice, or a personal failing, but a complex mental health condition.”…

Please could edtech ethics people do some background checks before they invite folk like this into our rooms

I’m tired of Sophie and others being recommended to me as “allies”
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophie_...
In February 2025, she spoke at a conference for the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship, alongside figures including Jordan Peterson, Nigel Farage and Peter Thiel.[35]

Every time I write or talk about this I get told by edtech governance advocates that I shouldn’t “be political”. But I am simply begging us to notice that the screen free/ age verification isn’t about child safety. And that is politics but I can say that neutrally without representing any party
Someone absolutely needs to do a dissertation on the appropriation of “child safety” in the policy sphere by affluent white elites on the political right wing.

There is quite a bit of trafficking that goes on through the two main budget U.K. hotels. Men with very young girls. Has been for years. The police do nothing. People don’t believe me when I say this until they see it. Plain sight is where the worst crime happens
How is this not the top story on every news bulletin?
This has been happening for years and instead of doing anything to protect children successive governments have made the situation worse. This isn't just on councils. It is part of failings on a State level.

My daughter is submitting her EPQ on ai in schools and we have had to buy every book about ai ethics as none of them are in the libraries. Not one single book on ai issues is available without a long wait. But there are plenty of “how to use ai” books. Just putting it out there

U.K. schools need to confront the ableism that is also enabling surveillance edtech to harm students:
- 💯 attendance and no covid tests
- “turn to talk”
- “track the speaker”
-popcorn reading
- uniform that isn’t adaptive

All this creates a culture where harm is normalised

It worries me that safe screens etc get meetings in Westminster but we can’t get anyone to discuss edtech data sharing

I don’t disagree with the issues around screens in schools and the lack of books. But Sophie is deliberately ignoring the edtech data issue

To this, I'll add a personal reflection. The mostly Black schools I attended before Uni were run and staffed by Black educators who understood, to one degree or another, that we are at war against a society that wants us dead. Education was a sword and shield. The tech industry seeks to destroy this
You think LLM-based chatbots can help students learn? Think again.

Take a few minutes to listen to Dr. @drtanksley.bsky.social clear explanation why this is very bad, harmful idea, especially for Black students.

I have a personal non scientific theory that at this time of year, there is a direct correlation between the number of “family/couple Christmas” pictures on social media and how unhappy that couple is. Usually at least one is cheating.

I hope that helps you feel better when you see it all.

I remain forever disappointed in “online safety” advice for families being about banning phones and social media.
And very rarely about having conversations, explaining risks and reflecting as adults on what we trust

The adults are the ones who need the most advice, in my opinion
November 23, 2025 at 6:35 AM
People in schools often find it funny that I worked in tech and distrust much tech and all ai products

But I say it is like those people who work in food factories who tell you never to eat certain products or at certain restaurants.

Knowing how the sausage is made will turn you off
