There were things that were brilliant about 1975. The average age was 35. The government was actively legislating to try and lessen the worst economic and social injustices. Popular culture was incredibly vibrant. None of these are the things that the Telegraph want to talk about though.

Worth noting that a fundamental change to the way the BBC is funded, or its public service remit, has substantial knock on's. The UK's broadcast landscape is hugely enriched by a competitive BBC challenged by a successful commercial sector, and vice versa.

Changing that principle will cost dear.
