A bit of a rarity these days, but it's always a joy to see a pristine Small Tortoiseshell. This one is feeding on Erysimum Bowles' Mauve. @savebutterflies.bsky.social @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social

Saw my first Swifts of the year over our Leicestershire garden last evening. Funnily enough it's the same date as last year. Just a pair but hopefully the first of many. @rspb.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social

Next week sees the start of the 50th survey season for the UKBMS! #UKBMS50

We are excited to be reaching this milestone and looking forward to celebrating the fantastic volunteers that support the scheme.

My first butterfly transect of the season produced 20 butterflies. 15 of these were pristine Brimstones. Looks like they're having a good start to the year. Also recorded my first Small Tortoiseshell of the year. @savebutterflies.bsky.social @ukbutterflies.bsky.social

#DYK... in the UK we have a type of forest called temperate rainforest & it's home to some internationally important populations of lichens, mosses and liverworts🤯
