A fantastic portrait of life in the wine trade courtesy of David Williams in this week's Observer.
Hats off to him for the humour, honesty and realism he brings to this 25-year overview of the ups and downs involved…

Great piece! I enjoyed this.
Michelin announces -- in French, bien sûr -- that it plans to rate wines as it does restaurants.

I LOVE the idea of wine being rated on Michelin's 3-star scale. But, I have questions about Michelin's intentions.

You don’t see many sandwiches in Singapore. Come to think of it you don’t see many wasps either. I’m not saying there’s a causal relationship there, but - actually, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Prove me wrong, internet!

OK wine lovers, fess up: When was the last time you had even 1 glass of any of the 35 leading wine brands in the US?

I had a Concha y Toro high-end Pinot Noir last week, but that should come with an asterisk. I don't think I've had any of the others this year.

Possibly stupid question: if I looked at tannin molecules under a microscope, how different would they look in a Barolo compared to a Beaujolais Nouveau? Would they have any discernible 'shape' that somehow informs their impact on the palate? @jamiegoode.bsky.social, any ideas?
