Cycling, camping, cycling and camping, SAABs. Bit of everything really.

A bit left of Castro
Why does the BBC claim the collision involved an e-bike when there is no evidence to support this assertion and is evidence to counter it.
November 19, 2025 at 11:02 AM
whilst moving up hill. It’s clear from the story that nobody saw the collision first hand and Mr Bevan doesn’t remember it at all. The only evidence is the CCTV footage, which doesn’t have any sound…
November 19, 2025 at 11:02 AM
Did mine. In your story “CCTV captures 'brutal' electric bike hit-and-run”https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cd7r18en0wyo

You repeatedly state that the vehicle used by the person that crashed into Mr Bevan was an e-bike, when it is clearly from the CCTV, not an e-bike. The rider is not peddling…
November 19, 2025 at 11:02 AM
Also, we have to take the word of the neighbour with the CCTV that it even was electric. They saw it on their CCTV a few days later. They didn’t actually witness it at the time, nor did they hear anything.

It’s a stitch-up job by the BBC

Also, the person on the motorbike went through a no entry sign. I used to live around the corner from where this happened.

Who’s they? What does their clothing choice matter?

Nobody’s cycling down a shared use path at 30mph. That’s faster than the average speed of the Tour de France. Very very few people are cycling down it at 20mph because the people that can cycle at 20mph don’t tend to ride on narrow, shared paths.

Yep agreed. When I was commuting, I’d do it whatever the weather - I had to get to work.
November 19, 2025 at 8:53 AM
Right I’ve been out now and it’s stopped raining but the northerly wind is bitter!
November 19, 2025 at 8:51 AM
Wales is raining, but that doesn’t narrow down the day, the forecast or the season.

Pretty much every time someone argues against something related to cycling, they’re ignoring the elephant in whatever room they’re in.
- Deaths
- cost of infrastructure
- law breaking
- salary sacrifice schemes

Cycling such low impact on all these things that it’s not worth mentioning!

Isn’t the fundamental underpinning of their job to inspire a love of learning in their students? A love of the subject? Writing a lesson plan is admin, I would have thought; I’m not a teacher.
November 18, 2025 at 8:59 PM
and they just scan it to make sure it’s good. AI isn’t replacing the human in these examples, it’s a time-saving tool. If the teacher is rubbish, then AI won’t change that.
November 18, 2025 at 8:55 PM
That’s why the use of GenAI to help produce lesson plans is a good use of it. The teacher knows what’s good and what isn’t. Me asking ChatGPT to do it would be pointless as I wouldn’t know if the results were any good, but the teacher can save themselves time by getting AI to produce it…
November 18, 2025 at 8:55 PM
Why? Would you also see them disciplined for googling “tips on writing a lesson plan for yr 11”?

What about a mechanic referring to a workshop manual on how to replace an alternator?

I went to comment on the article, right at the moment Cloudflare went down!

Love my dynamo lighting. Love my StVZO lighting. Will be getting it on my next road bike. Am always frustrated when I have to charge my battery lights.

I think even a 2nd grader would know that nobody “invented” electricity. I’m surprised The Giant Oompa Loompa hasn’t claimed that one for themselves.

You’re conflating civil law with criminal law.

This whole "small boats" issue is ridiculous! It is INSIGNIFICANT

36k people arrived in 2024 = 0.05% of UK population!

568k people died in the UK in 2024. We're not full!

If we paid ALL of them an average wage it would cost you £17 a year. Let them work & you pay nothing.

UK will be better off.

Hope you feel better soon

then taking the lane, being big and standing up for yourself is, in my experience, the way to stay safe. However, that is just my experience, you may find differently.

There’s a whole thing about “vehicular cycling” including recently a YouTube video about John Forester, the guy that came up with the idea. It’s generally bad because it’s meant that we don’t get separate infrastructure and have to deal with riding on the road, but, having got to that point…
