I hope someone draws this wonderful story about Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and the power of the arts to help us see things differently, to the attention of our Education Secretary. Do read it, it will lift your spirits.

We're going through redundancy type stuff at work and it is now starting to land closer to home although I am for now mercifully not impacted.

I am still at least 6/10 stressed out about it on behalf of people, but between the above, and Covid (in a work context), I am not sure when I was last not!

There are few things as satisfying at work as being able to discover that the person directing you/being held up as an example of how to is a) very much incorrect and b) you can prove it.

The only complicated part is that I do not wish to crush them into dust/have them defenestrated as I like them.

Well with the news that Twitter is going to go fully AI driven, I think that will mark the point that I bin my account there.

It is a horrible place, but I do think there is a value to arguing with people on the far right and challenging them and I have had wins doing exactly that.

The only good #metal releases this year have been the Deafheaven record (Lonely People With Power) and the new Faetooth album (Labyrinthine).

I'm prepared for a third good thing coming out before the end of the year but I certainly won't bet on it.

I had a disabled sibling. Our house had to be adapted for her needs and care.

I'd gently say to people criticising Angela #Rayner or calling for her resignation that you probably don't have full knowledge of the complicated and expensive care and home a disabled child needs.

Under the cover of dusk, Corbyn digs a grave in his allotment. He doesn't make it deep enough for the diverse range of opinions in #YourParty.

Meanwhile, Zach Polanski's grin threatens to shear his jaw clean off.

See also: translation. The plausible sentence-maker is just making a plausible sentence; it may or may not have much to do with the source language sentence, but if you don't speak the source language you won't know.
"Haha, yeah the AI gets this basic stuff wrong, but it excels at summarizing tax law or complicated literature."

MY BROTHER IN CHRIST IT'S JUST THAT YOU CAN'T TELL IN THOSE CASES BECAUSE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ENOUGH TAX LAW OR COMPLICATED LITERATURE

WHY ARE WE EVEN DOING THIS

My mother: Can I come down and visit this summer?

Me: Yes, of course! That would be great!

Her: [clearly having anticipated a no for no reason] Oh, right! I'll have to think about that and get back to you!

Very much enjoying the new Deafheaven record, feels like an album of the year contender.

It's Blackgaze: so My Bloody Valentine shoegazey stuff with blast beats and tremolo picking on top. Sad americans rather than murderous scandinavians. This is the record's last track.

The most pathetic man I've ever encountered was when I attended a cub scout sports day. Some games allowed leaders to play (baseball) or to go in goal.

Anyway, the opposing pack had their leader wicket-keeping and he'd talk to batters trying to distract them on pitches.

I should have batted him.

Had the first door-to-door charity mugger since pre Covid.

First real sign the economy is growing if they think they can squeeze money out of people on the doorstep again.

Retained seeds from some ridiculous beef tomatoes we had for dinner last week.

Soaked them in water for a few days, and I now have taproots showing!

They've all gone into damp soil in a pot in a sunny, warm location. Now to wait and see how many come up so I can start my very limited range shop.
