Hoping everyone who celebrated had a Merry Christmas.

My mum is visiting me in NZ (for the first time!), and we spent the day at the beach whale watching and sun bathing 🥰

SSL certificates were one of the original NFT markets -- A very small number of people got very rich for selling absolutely nothing but little files of crypto data. And they were bad at it.

Lets Encrypt eliminated that whole industry.
Honestly, the Let's Encrypt folks don't get nearly enough credit for basically protecting the entire fucking internet, by making it absolute bog standard to encrypt everything. It happened so fast and so many people were skeptical.
VPN vendors have huge budgets to advertise on your favorite podcasts.

We don't have marketing for the IETF, browser and OS security teams, CAs (Let's Encrypt), CDNs, researchers, open source authors, website builders, digital rights activists...

We made the web secure and didn't tell anyone.

Listening to @buckbee.bsky.social talking about Knowatoa and the ways in which we should be shifting how we think about SEO in an AI landscape.

In a world of moving goal posts, just defining our SPECIFIC goal posts so that we can track them over time is A START.

Does everyone agency-side just fold in AI/LLM considerations into their SEO audits etc now? Or are these just like whole new products sold to clients?

Results from experiment posting the same link on 4 social media platforms:

1) Threads sent the most traffic per follower, followed by Bluesky and LinkedIn
2) Bluesky = highest engagement

Will repeat experiment to better account for Direct traffic/bots + use a more engaging post

This AI arms race is so pervasive atm. Clients are like "this agency says they can do XYZ with AI, why aren't we doing that?". Where XYZ is like a different made-up thing every time.

Maybe SEO has been getting too cushty, but it's getting harder to NOT rip people off on new and shiny things.

Brand is an easy signal for Google to reward

At every turn over the past 15 years they've refined and relied heavier on brand until it broke

Rewarding authentic experiences and creation? That's a bigger challenge I hope they crack it as small publishers go broke
