Fun fact I learned today: toluene is named for the port town of Tolú, Colombia, from which tree balsam rich in toluene was exported to Europe. Tolú is in turn named after the Indigenous peoples of the region.

Any Australian gecko experts here? The lovely fellow in the photo lives by my bins in Brisbane, but I've not been able to get a good ID on them (best current bet is Gehyra dubia). Mottled grey, likes shade, approx 5 cm SVL, relatively short tail (not shown in photo).

1/n Some time ago my colleague, excellent cook, and friend Ivan told me: "Cacio e pepe is the recipe that I screw up more often. Let's make a project studying systematically the physics of that sauce".

Prepare to get cheesy, I'm glad to share the Cacio e paper preprint:

Some gems from the very Aussie tradies at my house:
"why're you acting like a loooooony toon?"
"the Wiggles, mate, do you reckon they're all on drugs?"
"I'm gonna get addicted to making money, that's the plan."

In the past few weeks I have attended several symposia that were among the first venues I ever presented research at. Coming back, this time with my own PhD student presenting a poster, feels both nostalgic and surreal! 🧪 #science

US folks, TB is extremely rare in the US but sadly common worldwide. Treatment is grueling and antibiotic resistance is a huge problem. Shameless self-promotion:
